VERY FINE. A SPLENDID EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ON AN INBOUND BRAZIL LINE COVER FROM PUERTO RICO TO NEW YORK VIA ST. THOMAS. THE FORWARDER'S ANCHOR-ILLUSTRATED MARKING IS AN UNUSUAL AND DESIRABLE ELEMENT OF THIS COLORFUL USAGE.
This cover was pictured and discussed in Michael Laurence's article on 10c 1869 covers in the Pan-American mails (Chronicle 118) and in his book (p. 65).
Ex Coulter and Eubanks. With 2006 P.F. certificate. (Image)
VERY FINE. ONE OF TWO RECORDED 1869 15-CENT TYPE II COVERS TO GREECE. A COLORFUL AND EXTRAORDINARY FOREIGN-MAIL USAGE.
The 23c rate to Greece by North German Union Closed Mail was reduced to 18c on July 1, 1870 (the 18c NGU Direct rate was reduced to 15c on the same date). This cover was correctly prepaid for the new 18c NGU Closed Mail rate. It was carried on the Guion Line's Minnesota, which departed New York on Nov. 2, 1870, and arrived off Queenstown on Nov. 14.
The other cover to Greece is ex Coulter, and realized $23,000 hammer in our 2009 Rarities sale. This cover is ex Kaplan and Albert.
Ex Eubanks. With 2011 P.F. certificate (Image)

FINE. A SCARCE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE ON DOUBLE PAPER WITHOUT GRILL.
The 30c 1869 Without Grill variety comes on two types of paper. The normal paper is classified as Scott 121a, and the Double Paper as a variety of Scott 121. This stamp has the shade, impression and centering of the Double Paper stamps, all of which come from one large multiple found more than 100 years ago.
With 1998 P.S.E. certificate as No. 121a (in error) -- Note: this and lot 1565 were purchased by a bidder in the Heimburger sale who has refused to pay his invoice and, therefore, they are being offered on behalf of the consignor to clear the defaulting bidder's account (Image)
