THE FINER STRIKE OF THE TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE "POOL TABLE" FANCY CANCELLATION, WHICH CLEARLY DEPICTS A BILLIARD TABLE.
Only two covers with the Chicago "Pool Table" fancy cancellation are reported, both dated March 30. The other realized $4,000 hammer in our 2010 Rarities of the World sale (Sale 989, lot 142), and this realized $3,500 hammer in our Andromeda sale (Sale 1008, lot 2008). (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE FINEST ON-COVER EXAMPLE OF THE FAMOUS "GIN" BARREL FANCY CANCELLATION OF CHICAGO.
The Chicago "Gin" Barrel is one of the best known and most distinctive of fancy cancellations used during the Bank Note era. While barrel designs are known from other post offices, including the Oil Barrel of Titusville Pa. and Barrel of Waterbury Conn., the Chicago design is the only known fancy cancel representing a distilled spirit. This cover has the clearest strike of any of the few recorded covers with the "Gin" Barrel.

EXTREMELY FINE. A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE AND SPECTACULAR SKULL & CROSSBONES FANCY CANCELLATION ON AN ATTRACTIVE CORNER CARD COVER.
We believe this to be the rarest of the various Skull & Crossbones and "Baby in Coffin" fancy cancellations used by the Harrisburg Pa. post office, and this cover is the finest example known to us.
