May 20" circular datestamp (with "20" in ms.) on yellow cover to Francestown N.H. with Fremont three-quarter portrait in oval surrounded by scenes of Fremont battling Indians and ascending Rock Mountains, John Andrew and J. E. Tilton imprints, Milgram JF-40 EXTREMELY FINE. A SPECTACULAR A ND RARE FREMONT CAMPAIGN COVER INCORPORATING ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE LEGENDARY FRONTIERSMAN FIGHTING INDIANS AND REACHING THE PEAK OF THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS. This remarkable design has detailed woodcut engravings of battle scenes at lower left and top center, and the engraving above the portrait oval depicts Fremont at the top of the Rocky Mountains, which is similar to the image used more than 40 years later on the 5c Trans-Mississippi stamp. Oct. 27" (1856) circular datestamp on buff cover to Columbia Pa. with Buchanan and Breckinridge three-quarter portraits in ornate frame 1856 campaign design, Milgram JB-9 EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE 1856 CAMPAIGN DESIGN WITH PORTRAITS OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY CANDIDATES JAMES BUCHANAN AND JOHN C. BRECKINRIDGE WITH THE ADDED PHILATELIC ATTRACTION OF A 3-CENT 1856 ORANGE BROWN STAMP. This 3c 1851 stamp comes from Plate 8 (EDU Apr. 15, 1856) and was printed in the distinctive 1856 Orange Brown shade, which closely resembles the Orange Brown of early 1852 (Scott 10/10A).
