VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE CUBA 1899 2-CENT WITH INVERTED OVERPRINT.
One sheet was found in the town of Placetas. Of these, 25 were unused and the remaining 75 were used. Only a very few of each survive today.

In March 1900 one pane of each denomination was prepared for the Paris and Pan-American Expositions. For the 10c the Type II design was used, and it is only known as a Special Printing.

In March 1900 one pane of each denomination was prepared for the Paris and Pan-American Expositions. Many were backstamped "Special Surcharge" in red ink by a dealer, J. M. Bartels, or signed by him as with this set. Some, but not all of these guaranteed stamps also have the Type E "Specimen" handstamp applied by H.G. This is the only complete booklet of the 1899 2c Royal Palms issue we have encountered. The individual panes themselves are rare, and this booklet is a remarkable artifact despite the condition.
