VERY FINE APPEARING ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL "VICTORY" OVERPRINTS.
Only 36 were produced. The census compiled by Geoffrey Brewster and published in Possessions lists 25 known genuine examples. The only scarcer "Victory" overprints in terms of number issued are the booklet pane of six, Scott 463a, and the 1p Red Orange & Black, Scott 484.
With 2008 P.F. certificate (Image)
VERY FINE. A SPECTACULAR COVER CONTAINING THREE OF THE RAREST "VICTORY" OVERPRINTS, INCLUDING THE ONE-PESO BARASOAIN CHURCH, THE 12-CENT TRIUMPHAL ARCH AND THE 4-CENT AIR POST.
The issue quantities for the three most important stamps on this cover were 36 for Scott 476, 21 for Scott 484 and 122 for Scott C63. Each of these three stamps, particularly the 1p and 12c, is rare by itself. To combine them on one cover with four other "Victory" overprints is truly remarkable. The census compiled by Geoffrey Brewster and published in Possessions lists 5 known examples of the 1p used on cover (plus one stated to be possibly fake). One other cover (ex Plass) has this same combination of stamps.
From our 1978 and 1982 Rarities sales. Kessler backstamp guarantee. With 1993 A.P.S. certificate. Scott lists but does not price Nos. 476, 484 and C63 on cover. Total Scott Retail for the seven used stamps off-cover is $10,800.00 (Image)
FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENTAVO DARK BROWN OFFICIAL WITH "VICTORY" OVERPRINT. ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL OF THE PHILIPPINES VICTORY OVERPRINT ISSUES.
We have only sold four other singles in our computerized records, including Rarities of the World sales going back to 1964. The census compiled by Geoffrey Brewster and published in Possessions lists only 28 known examples.
Signed Bloch. With 1978 Friedl and 1994 P.F. certificates (Image)
