3746 c ImageAmelia Earhart. Autograph at lower left on U.S. flight and double catapult cover, begins with the U.S. flight, Aug. 20, 1929 Women's National Air Derby violet cachet to Andover Mass. on U.S. 5c stamped envelope with "Douglas Ariz. Aug. 20 1929" machine cancel and North Bridgton Me. backstamp, cover then posted on board the Bremen to Southampton about 10 months later, with U.S. 2c (3) and 15c stamps tied by "U.S. Ger. Seapost Jun 28 1930" circular datestamps and red catapult cachet (Graue-Leder K-30b), finally, after a couple months, the cover was posted on board the Europa to Amsterdam with Germany 2m stamp and tied by "Deutsch-Amerikanische Seepost 17.9.30" circular datestamp and red catapult cachet (Graue-Leder K-48c)

VERY FINE. MOST CERTAINLY A UNIQUE COMBINATION OF A U.S. FLIGHT AND TWO CATAPULT FLIGHTS ON A COVER SIGNED BY AMELIA EARHART.

The Women's National Air Derby, commonly known as the Powder Puff Derby, was the first official women-only air race in the United States and included Douglas Ariz. as one of the stops. Amelia Earhart was a contender and this is most likely when the cover was signed.

3747 c The Exceptional Balance of the Henry W. Houser Gold Medal Winning Exhibit of Catapult Flight Covers. 205 covers and cards from 1926-35, begins with early experimental flights incl. S.S. Homeric and S.S. Leviathan, Ile de France of which two are on the Aug. 8, 1928 first leg of the inaugural service with the six-line catapult handstamp, majority of balance is of German North Atlantic catapult flights which includes a good portion of multiple country and dual country uses such as Belgium, Danzig, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Russia, USA, among others, a number of covers listed in Graue-Leder as between 5-20 known on particular flights, various destinations, supplementary flights, cancellations, and markings (including Seapost Service Under cover), also unmounted material, some of which is loose or on auction lot cards, mostly Fine or better, a seldom seen opportunity to acquire a large selection of these scarce and popular covers
