1453   Image1c Blue, Ty. Ia (19). Bottom row F Relief position, characteristic dark color and clear impression, town cancel, margins to very slightly in at left

FINE. A HANDSOME SOUND USED EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 1857 ONE-CENT PERFORATED TYPE Ia.

Type Ia, imperforate and perforated, only comes from 18 positions in the bottom rows of the right and left panes of Plate 4. Due to difficulties in perforating sheets from Plate 4, many examples of Type Ia have perforations cutting into the design at bottom. This example clearly shows the type characteristics. (Image)

Only one position is known to have worn at both top and bottom causing Type III (46L12).

With copy of 1978 P.F. certificate. Scott Catalogue does not list combination pairs from Plate 12. Scott Retail as pair of Type II and pair of Type IIIa. (Image)
