FINE APPEARANCE. THIS EXAMPLE OF THE 1898 ONE-EIGHTH BARREL WITH TYPE C SURCHARGE IS REPORTEDLY UNIQUE.
The date on the cancel might be July 16, which would make it the earliest documented use for the Type C surcharge (Image)
ACCORDING TO PRIESTER CENSUS, THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE TYPE B 1898 PROVISIONAL SURCHARGE ON THE ONE-THIRD BARREL STAMP WITH PLATE LETTER AND POSITION NUMBER.
The Priester census records a total of two copies of this issue on blue paper. This is the only one with the plate letter and position designation.
Ex Tolman. With 2006 P.F. certificate which identifies this as REA54 and states that "it is genuine, with small wrinkles, and the plate letter and position no. designations usually found on the green paper Beer stamps." (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1898 TYPE D PROVISIONAL SURCHARGE ON THE ONE-THIRD BARREL. ONLY TWO ARE RECORDED IN THE PRIESTER CENSUS.
