EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTRAORDINARILY WELL-CENTERED AND FRESH EXAMPLE OF THE VERY RARE 1885 10-SHILLING ULTRAMARINE I.R. OFFICIAL WITH RAISED STOP.

Only a tiny number are known. This is the first example our firm has offered.

Signed Bloch. With 1996 B.P.A. certificate. The basic stamp (Scott No. O9b), without the raised stop, itself is a major rarity and catalogues $24,000.00 in Scott and £25,000 in Stanley Gibbons. But this example is further enhanced with the presence of the recognizable raised stop variety. SG value as the variety (Image)

103° og ImageGREAT BRITAIN, 1890, £1 Brown Violet, Watermark Three Orbs, I.R. Official (O13; SG O12). Lettered T-B, full original gum, tiny h.r., beautifully centered, rich luxuriant color and a deeply etched impression, faint trace of a vertical crease at right, which is almost inevitable on these "long" stamps, and far less noticeable than usual (it is so light it is mentioned on only the most recent of the accompanying five certificates)

VERY FINE. A PARTICULARLY HANDSOME EXAMPLE OF THE 1890 ONE-POUND I.R. OFFICIAL, ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL THE GREAT BRITAIN OFFICIAL STAMPS.

This is only the second example we have offered in the last 25 years.

With 1973 A. Diena, 1992 E. Diena, 1995 Brandon, 1995 Richter, and 2015 B.P.A. certificates. SG £100,000 (Image)

Lettered M-B, rich color on fresh paper, neat central Sunderland 1901 circular datestamp, accompanying certificate mentions a "tiny perf split at lower right" that is the figment of someone's imagination, we are of the opinion that this is a most attractive used example of this elusive official, with 2017 B.P.A. certificate, SG £2,500 (Image)
