23 image1918. 24c 1918 Air Post (Scott C3 "Fast Plane" variety) tied on a First Trip May 15 cover from Washington DC to Hartford CT. This is the mail that was on Lieut. Boyle's plane when he flew south instead of north, then crashed in a field near Waldorf MD. The mail was sent back to Washington and flown on May 16. It is not only a historic First Trip cover, but an airmail crash cover. Scott value $750. A similar cover sold for $500 in a 2013 RAS auction. Donated by Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries.
