638 c   imageGREAT BRITAIN British Military Mission in Siberia 1919 cover and letter sent from Omsk to Fairfield, England by Lt. Frederick Arthur Swindells, 1/9th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, during the British military intervention in Siberia. Censored by Swindells and postmarked "British Mission Post Office Vladivostok" (14.8.19). The battalion (about 1000 men) arrived in Vladivostok on 28 November 1918. On 18 December they left for Omsk, arriving on 7 January 1919. They moved to Yekaterinburg in May and returned to Omsk in July. Swindells had served with the Manchester Regiment in France, earning the Military Medal for bravery. Illustrated in "Forces Postal History Society" Journal No. 328 (Image)

639 c   imageGREAT BRITAIN British Military Mission in Siberia 1919 cover and letter sent from Omsk to London by Quartermaster Captain James Arthur Boulton, 25th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment during the British military intervention in Siberia. Postmarked 24.3.19, with the correct 30 kopecks postage, circular handstamp of the Omsk military censor on the front, and two-line handstamp on back, reading "Examined by Military Censorship / Court Concillor Ginst." hs, also applied to each page of the letter, additional Postal Censor applied in London on front of the letter, which traveled east via Vladivostok (the regiment (800 men) arrived in Vladivostok on 3 August 1918, and in Omsk on 26 October. Three companies left Omsk for Vladivostok on 29 March. On the date of this letter, King George V awarded Boulton the Order of the British Empire), Illustrated in BJRP No.110 (Image) (Image 2) (All Images)

640 c   imageGREAT BRITAIN British Military Mission in Siberia 1921 (26 Feb) cover endorsed "On Active Service", sent from Kobe Japan to West Quaco, New Brunswick, Canada, sender''s "British Mission Vladivostok" docketing at bottom, with transit and arrival pmks on back. After departure of the British Military Mission, a small number of personnel remained in Vladivostok to perform relief and intelligence functions. These personnel were attached to the British (Diplomatic) Mission and were forced to rely on the diplomatic bag or civilian postal arrangements. The sender, Sgt.Brown, was the Secretary of the Canadian Red Cross, attached to the British Mission (Image)
