Ernest Ralph Fishburn, with the Medical Department of AEF Siberia, postmarked "U.S. Postal Agency Siberia" (Oct 23 18) along with the "AEF Siberia Censored" hs, signed by Major James Howard Agnew MC (Medical Corps). Enclosed with the letter is a 15 kopeck money stamp, the reverse of which reads, "equivalent to silver coinage." Illustrated in "Forces Postal History Society Journal" No.325 (Image)

190 c   imageUnited States Postal Agency in Siberia 1918 (20 Dec) cover and letter sent from Vladivostok by Clyde Lester Stryker to Dr. Harvey Claude Updegrove in Easton, Pa, with the correct 30k franking, censored in Vladivostok and San Francisco. Clyde Stryker was the assistant manager of the Vladivostok branch of R. Martens & Co., Ltd., a Russian shipping firm. Updegrove was an American doctor attached to the British 13th Field Ambulance in France and Italy during WWI. The letter reads in part: "Business during 1918 was rather a difficult thing until the Czechs cleaned up the town. During the Bolshevik regime, we never knew what was going to happen next, and for four months I worked with a Colt automatic in my drawer and never stirred out at night without it" (Image)

Vogel with Company C of the 27th Infantry Regiment, AEF Siberia. Postmarked "U.S. Postal Agency Siberia", along with handstamp A. E. F. Siberia Censored (Type C-3) signed by 2nd Lt. Sylvian Gaston Kindall of the same company (Kindall wrote one of the few first-hand accounts of the American intervention in Siberia "American Soldiers in Siberia" (1945). On 26 June 1919 Kindall was wounded when his unit was attacked by Japanese troops at Sviyagino railway station. He was the first American to qualify for a Purple Heart for a wound received from the Japanese in Siberia) (Image)
