4045 E   imageMilitary Mail. 1944 (30 July) legal size cover franked with 2c "Guerilla Postal Service", tied by oval "Posted in the Free Philippines 30 July 1944 M.D.No.10 Mindanao Guerilla Area", addressed to The Saturday Evening Post in Philadelphia, boxed "We Defend upon Gen.MacArthur's Pledge to Return" handstamp, "Tenth Military District" censor cachet, showing return address of Raul Celeste C/o Major Leo Hipe USFIP APO 500, wrinkled, with some toning, nevertheless a fine cover (released in 1943, this Philippine guerilla stamp was intended for use on the island of Mindanao. It is referred to as the "Free Philippines Guerilla Stamp" and was approved by General Douglas MacArthur. The stamps were printed in Brisbane and were delivered by the U.S.S Naval submarine to the 10th Military District at Esperanza, Agusan province, Mindanao. Colonel Wendell Fertig received the stamps on 15th November 1943, at the time he was the commander of the largest group of guerillas in the Philippines.
