orange red (vermilion) on yellowish paper, unused with original gum, l.h., full to mostly large margins on all four sides, nice color and bright shade, v.f. example of the rarest stamp of the First Issue of France (the 1849 1 Franc stamp comes in
two basic shades, Vermilion (Scott No. 8) and Carmine (No. 9), with each having several sub-shades. This Dull Orange Red shade is from the Vermilion group, which is far rarer than the Carmine. In fact, this is one of the key rarities for someone
