See Complete Bayeux Tapestry Exhibit Here - PDF.LARGE LOTS AND COLLECTIONS The Bayeux Tapestry - award-winning collection 1870-1966 award-winning 8-frame thematic exhibit developed over more than three decades, exploring the history, mystery and cultural legacy of the famed eleventh-century embroidery depicting the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings. Assembling a large-scale exhibit on this subject required extensive research and the acquisition of a wide range of scarce philatelic and postal history material related to medieval Europe, the Norman Conquest, Bayeux, and the Tapestry's continuing influence. Among the highlights are rare Great Britain 1966 Hastings commemoratives, with missing color varieties, National Postal Museum imprimaturs, Essays and progressive Proofs; Napoleonic military mail from Bayeux, a FL dated 1730, Ballon Monte used during the Siege of Paris, and numerous unusual postal history items illustrating related historical themes. The exhibit also incorporates original research conducted with the British Postal Archives and correspondence with stamp designer Jennifer Toombs regarding Jersey issues inspired by the Tapestry. Winner of the Grand Award at the 2008 National Topical Stamp Show, this important thematic exhibit is offered intact as assembled and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a nationally recognized collection combining philatelic rarity, original research and exceptional thematic development. Also included, if desired by the successful bidder and upon payment of shipping costs, is an extensive reference library relating to the Battle of Hastings and the Bayeux Tapestry, comprising approximately 50 books and pamphlets housed in two large boxes.
