1342 E   image1870-71 Siege of Paris - Par Ballon Monte. 1870 (24 Nov) FL endorsed "Par Ballon Monte", with Paris R. Le Clery departure pmk, without stamp and other markings. The pilot Paul Rolier left Paris on the Balloon "Le Vile D'Orleans" on 24th November. The balloon crash landed after 14 hours and 45 minutes, passing 1,246 km. The salvaged mail was mostly in water-soaked condition (YT Euro 2,500), ex-Aloni (Image)

1343 E   image1870-71 Siege of Paris - Par Ballon Monte. 1870 (23 Nov) cover endorsed "Par Ballon Monte", with Paris Pl. De La Bourse "5/23 Nov" pmk, addressed to Nantes, with 22 Dec "42" arrival pmk on back, stamp washed off, without backflap and other cover faults, pencil signed. The pilot A. Marcel Martin left Paris on the Balloon "Le Jacquard" on 28th November. The balloon was lost at sea after a flight of 550km. 1344 E   image1870-71 Siege of Paris - Par Ballon Monte. 1871 (27 Jan) folded "Lettre Journal Gazette des Absents" "Par Ballon Monte" from Paris to Bordeaux, carried on "Richard Wallace", stamp washed off, with arrival pmk on back, fine. 1345 E   imageFlight Covers. 1929 (10 Dec) Paris to Indochina flight cover addressed to Saigon, Bourget Aviation registry label, handstamped "Courrier Accidente", with 29 Jan 1930 arrival pmk. The plane crashed into a sandhill in a storm on the Tunis-Benghazi leg, killing all on board. The wreckage was found on 23rd December and part of the salvaged mail was returned to Marseilles and forwarded after application of a corresponding cachet, ex-Aloni (Image)

1346 E   imageFlight Covers. 1931 (12 July) Doret and Brix non-stop flight from Paris to Tokyo, specially prepared envelope "France-Japon Sans Escale", pre-printed "Le Trait D'Union" on back flap, with Nizhniy Udinsk 14.7.31 pmk, fine (French Pilots Le Brix, Doret, and Mesmin used "Trait d'Union" to attempt the first non-stop flight between Paris and Tokyo. Taking off from Paris-Le Bourget on 12 July 1931, they had made it to the vicinity of Lake Baikal in Siberia when the aircraft's engine iced up. Le Brix and Mesmin parachuted to safety, and Doret crash-landed the plane into the treetops of a Siberian forest in Nizhniy Udinsk. All three men survived unharmed), ex-Aloni (Image)
