1017 P   image1903 presentation album containing 309 small die proofs in intact leatherbound Roosevelt presentation album with gold-stamped "Otto Carmichael" on cover, (the leather on the cover is partly restored, as are the backing pages), the inside is intact with proofs beautifully presented on gray card pages with gold edges, proofs arranged in geometric patterns as sets, including two each of Nos. 3-4 (one set labeled 1847, other labeled 1876), First 1861 and Last 1861, complete Bank Note, Columbian Exposition, Trans-Mississippi, Pan-American and Louisiana Purchase, as well as Special Delivery, Postage Dues, Officials, Newspapers and Periodicals, Carriers, six from 1899 Cuba issue, last page is the 1902 Series, seven blank pages at the end are new, many of the original thin white paper interleavings are still intact (most albums are either missing some or are damaged), the proofs are in excellent condition with absolutely pristine colors, with occasional toned spots affecting a few of the Trans-Mississippi proofs. A rare intact Roosevelt Presentation album, only a handful remain intact, as most have been broken up for individual proof sets. In 1903, during the Theodore Roosevelt administration, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing prepared 85 special presentation albums with small die proofs on white wove paper of all issues printed to that date. The proofs were beautifully presented on pages in leather bound albums given to various dignitaries (catalogued as individual proofs, without any premium for the album, of which only a few remain) cat. $76455 (Image) (image 1017a) (image 1017b)
