267 c   image(1) Group of nine covers each bearing the 5c lithographed Jefferson Davis prepared by Hoyer & Ludwig, issued to pay the initial under-500 miles single-weight rate. An attractive and well-balanced assembly illustrating stamps from both Stone 1 and 2, a range of early-war postal usages, towns, and rate combinations. The group includes three covers from Tudor Hall, Virginia, with Nov. 5, 1861, Jan. 1, 1862, and Jan. 23, 1862 datestamps, providing a compact study of this distinctive origin in the opening year of Confederate postal operations. One cover bears a United States Hotel, Columbia, South Carolina corner card, adding collateral interest. Rate and franking variety is represented by a Macon, Georgia to Linden, Texas cover bearing two 5c stamps paying the 10c over-500 mile rate, as well as a mixed franking combining a 5c Hoyer & Ludwig with a 5c De La Rue printing.
