876 COVER   image1894-97 Exhibit collection of 46 covers and cards, extensively written-up on 33 pages, military mail via the various Japanese Army Field Post Offices located in Manchuria, Korea, Formosa and China, items carried by Japanese ships, including "Nagato-Maru", earliest and latest recorded usages, each item identified by sender, destination, military unit, FPO identification and duration of the operation, also incoming and inter-FPO mail, few covers franked with 2s adhesives, covers from Wei-ha-wei Occupation Army, including a parcel card from the 2nd Infantry Regiment sent to Japan, others from Taipei, Chilung, Antung and others. A fine exhibit, with many rare items (War was declared on August 1, 1894. Japanese troops scored quick and overwhelming victories on both land and sea and by March 1895, they had successfully invaded Shandong province and Manchuria and had fortified posts that commanded the sea approaches to Beijing. The Chinese sued for peace.
