San Francisco, Cal./Registered", represented by a postcard from Camp Dewey on Manila Bay (Aug 10,1898, earliest recorded), Sep 17, 1898 registered cover from Cavite, franked with 1c, 2c, 5c and 10c Bureau issues, sent to Genova, Italy, with French "Paq.Fr.No.1 Ligne N" maritime mark, Military Sta.No.1 markings on Registered covers to Albany, another to Paris, with 8c Trans-Mississippi franking, 1901 Registered cover with overprinted adhesives to Germany, Mil.Sta. No.2 Cavite, No.3 Ilolo, P.I. (two-line handstamp), No.4 Phil.Isls, Cebu, one to Spain, another to Singapore, No.5, Bacolod, P.I. to Spain (one of only four examples of the 4-line marking recorded), Mil.Sta.Aparri, Mil.Sta.Bongao (located in the Sulu Archipelago, this garrison did not have a registry marking, the lettered transited Jolo), Mil.Sta. San Fernando, Mil.Sta.Vigan, two registered covers to the United States. 3133 E   image1898-1901 Receiving postmarks at U.S. Military Stations, collection of 20 covers and cards, written-up on 16 exhibit pages, showing military stations in numerical order, unnumbered stations, usages after the stations were turned over to civilian control, etc. The exhibit includes "Military Stat. No.1" applied on 1899 card from Belgium, with "Forwarded Ponce Porto Rico" handstamp, receiving pmks of Playa Ponce, Military station No.2 Guayama, No.3 Mayaguez, No.4 San Juan, No 6 Utuado, No.7 Yauco, No.8 Juan Diaz, Aguadilla Station, Aibonito Station, Arecibo Station, Bayamon Station, Fajardo Station, Humacao Station, Lares Station and Rio Piedras Station, mixed condition, mostly fine or better. In addition to the normal postmarks used on outgoing mail, the military stations were supplied with receiving marks that were used on mail arriving or in transit through the various locations. Covers with such markings were not often preserved, some are quite rare and there are several discovery examples and others of which only 3 or 4 are known. Early registered mail cover sent through Military Station No.1 located at Ponce shows "Registered Sep 27 1898 Military Station No.1 Porto Rico Washington D.C." five-line handstamp, followed by Mil.Sta.No.2 Guayama (registered cover franked with 2x5c blue, addressed to Barcelona), Mil.Sta.No.3 Mayaguez (cover to Germany), Mil.Sta.No.4 San Juan, Mil.Sta.No.6 (Utado) cover franked with 5x2c Trans-Mississippi (faulty), (this is discovery example of registered mail from Utado), Mil.Sta.No.7 (Yauco), the only recorded example, registered cover to Corsica, Mil.Sta.No.8 (Juana Diaz), one of the only two recorded registered covers from this station; Aguadilla Station, Aibonito Station, Bayamon Station (front of a registered cover with departure cds, only recorded example), Cayey Station, Fayardo Station, Playa Ponce Station, Rio Piedras Station, San German Station and a registered cover from "Vicques Station", franked with a combination of Puerto Rico overprints and 3x2c Trans-Mississippi (postmark was erroneous as the name of the town was "Vieques", not "Vicques"). A formidable showing which includes some "only recorded" Registry markings from U.S. Military stations in Puerto Rico.
