3474 E   image1891 (23 June) letter datelined "Kusaie, C.I.", written in English, with envelope franked with 20pf Eagle, posted from "Jaluit Marschall-Inseln" (20.7.91) sent by missionary Pease to his niece in USA, with German Post Office in Apia (Samoa) transits, San Francisco (Oct 2) and Newton Center, Mass. arrival pmks on back, fine and rare example of a Missionary letter from Kusaie (today Kosrae, an island in the Federated States of Micronesia). No German forerunners exist from the Caroline Islands, which was a Spanish possession until 1899. This letter was carried by a ship captain to the German post office in Jaluit and sent four weeks later (Image)
