3320 O 39 image1916 One Rupie Stamp delivered by Blockade Runner, 1r red watermarked, "Dar-es-Salaam 2.7.1916" overlapping cancel, usual centering, intense rich color, nearly v.f., signed Hebert Bloch, with 1961 Friedl certificate (issued to Alfred F.Kugel). Only a small number of 1r watermarked stamps reached the Colony via the blockade runner "Marie" in March 1916. The stamps reached the post offices in early June and most of the 40 or so known examples were used on parcel cards on the Central Railroad during a brief period prior to being overtaken by the Allied Forces. The used 1r has often been called the "Queen of German East Africa Philately" (Mi.38, Euro 30,000) cat. $25000 (Cat No. 39) (Image) (image 3320a)
