Cherrystone Auctions Sale - 1024

The Maitland Collection of U.S. Stamps - October 29, 2024

Welcome to the Maitland Collection of the United States. The focus is on items typically missing from conventional collections, most notably Re-Issues, Special Printings, rare Coils, Postage Dues and of course the Inverted Jenny (see the Maitland Collection of Inverted Centers, which takes place on October 30th).

The driving force behind this collection was the conviction that typical items can usually be acquired easily. When something special comes up for sale however, the opportunity should not be missed. It might be a long wait before another comes up. Along those lines, some of the highlights feature:

  • A sound unused, disturbed original gum 1857 5c Indian red (with a PSE certificate graded "VF 80") 1875 Reprints
  • Rare Grills including the 3c C.Grill (ex-Petersen) and 3c Z.Grill (ex-Petersen and Laila)
  • 1875 and 1880 Special Printings, over 20 different, including 1875 2c carmine vermilion (ex-Zoellner), 90c violet carmine (ex-Perry Hanson), 1880 2c scarlet vermilion (ex-Curtiss and 6c dull rose (ex-Henry, Klein and Drucker).
  • Bluish Papers complete
  • Rare Coil Pairs
  • Imperforate 5c carmine in a 2c block of nine
  • Several Coil Waste stamps including a Scott 544, 594 (ex-Hoffman)
  • A nice selection of the 24c Jenny, with Plate Blocks, "Fast", "Slow" and "Grounded" Plane varieties Postage Dues and selected Confederate States

Here is a wonderful opportunity to acquire something "missing" from your collection. I wish you all best of luck in the sale.
