AUTOGRAPHED 1891 LETTER FROM FAMOUS AFRICAN EXPLORER HENRY STANLEY: When processing estate lots we sometimes come across something that stops us in our tracks. This amazing discovery was one of those times. It is a
2-panel handwritten & signed letter dated 14 Mar 1891 by HENRY STANLEY written in England to Bertha H. Davey. The letter refers to Quinine Pills and mentions S. Storey M.P. The letter also has a note from Stanley's wife Dorothy which she signed. Sir
Henry Stanley was most famous for his expedition to Africa to find the lost missionary DAVID LIVINGSTONE. Upon finding Livingstone, Stanley reportedly asked "DR. LIVINGSTONE, I PRESUME". This is one of the most iconic phrases of all time. Besides
being an African explorer, Stanley led a colourful life serving in the Confederate Army, US Navy and as a newspaper correspondent. He was knighted in 1899 and this letter was prior to knighthood. F, some minor toning (Image)
