714   VENICE 1780 PREPAID "AQ" LETTER SHEET:
There are those who, with good reason, feel that the Republic of Venice was using prepaid postage more than 200 years before Rowland Hill came along with the Penny Black. Certainly their "AQ" lettersheet sold to the water company was the first Postal Stationery issue. The company bought it, wrote out their bills & the Lion of St Marks emblem indicated that the postage had been paid. The lettersheet offered here is a nice example printed on laid paper in great condition. VF 		Estimate 150.00+ $Cdn
