 COMMANDER RODGERS AND HIS NAVY SEAPLANE:
Unused b/w USA postcard 1930 depicting COMMANDER JOHN RODGERS (spelling error on postcard) & HIS NAVY SEAPLANE. In 1925 Rodgers attempted to fly nonstop from San Francisco to
Hawaii. The plane ran out of fuel & had to be landed in the ocean. An extensive search started for the plane but was unsuccessful. With incredible ingenuity, Rodgers & his crew turned the plane into a sailboat & sailed the last 450 miles to Hawaii.
They were eventually found by an American submarine. VF (Image)
