Cook Islands 1d postal card cancelled at Rarotonga 21 June, 1909 addr to Germany. It was written & signed by GEORG FRIEDERICI leader of the HAMBURG SOUTH SEA EXPEDITION. Has violet oval handstamp "HANSEATISCHE SUDSEE EXPEDITION" and is datelined Atiu, Cook Inselir 23.6.09. From 1908-10 Friederici, a German ethnologist (who studied cultures & societies) led expeditions to Bismarck Archipelago, German & Dutch New Guinea & the English & French possessions of the Pacific.
