3046 cover image1897 (Jan. 22), Two-Country Franking Cover to Lowell, Mich., bearing Wuhu 1c blue (Scott #47, Chan #LW37, paying postage to Shanghai), plus Japan 5s Arisugawa (Scott #90, paying international postage); indistinct "Wuhu/22 JAN 97/China." postmark tying 1c (second, stronger strike on reverse), both stamps tied by I.J.P.O. Shanghai postmark (date unclear); reverse with double-ring Shanghai Local Post (Jan. 23), Yokohama (Jan. 31) and (under Local Post strike) San Francisco Feb. 8 transits; tears to backflap and top, happily missing the stamps, plus some toning, but an appealing pre-UPU cover nonetheless, Fine to Very Fine.
