2323 nh RW49a imageFederal Duck Stamp, 1982, $7.50 Canvasbacks, orange & violet omitted (Scott RW49a), o.g., never hinged, a striking example of this extremely rare error, clearly missing the two colors, strong proof quality impressions of the remaining colors on gleaming white paper, Fine to Very Fine, we only found 2 others on Stamp Auction Network; one is ex Landry (2012 sale) and the other is ex "Crossings" (2007 sale) so now is the time to bid aggressively, only 5 are reported, with 2011 P.S.E. certificate.

2327 O RW57b imageFederal Duck Stamp, 1990, $12.50 Black Bellied Whistling Duck, reverse inscription printed on paper instead of on top of the gum (Scott RW57b), Some philatelic researchers have questioned the existence of No. RW57b as a genuine error. There appears to be evidence that the inscriptions printed on the gum on the back can leach through to the paper on one of the types of gums used on these stamps. Further research is ongoing. The clarity of the lettering makes us think this is a misguided theory. Before being delisted, the Scott Catalogue value of the error was approximately $3,500, o.g., never hinged, neat signature at bottom right, Superb, accompanied by old Sam Houston Philatelics lot card noting a sale price of $1,150 hammer and a catalog value of $3,500. Neither listed nor priced in Scott today, only 100 known examples, per P.S.E.; P.S.E.'s population report indicates 50 used examined with 5 graded 98 and one graded 100, with 2010 P.S.E. certificate graded SUP 98.

The panes were printed 5 x 4. To make a long story short and less confusing, our review of Stamp Auction Network sales shows that one pane has been divided into 6 units consisting of a top right plate block of 3 vertical pairs, top left and bottom right plate blocks of 2 pairs, a bottom left plate no. horizontal pair, a horizontal pair with left selvage, and a vertical pair with plate position in the selvage, while the other pane has a top left plate no. vertical pair and a top right plate no. block of 2 pairs, with the other 7 pairs unknown. The last time vertical and horizontal pairs were offered on Stamp Auction Network was in 2014 and 2008, respectively. We don't recommend waiting for another to appear on the market.
