The sender, Dr. Ernst H. F. Pirkner, was a Manhattan-based physician who graduated from the University of Greifswald (Germany) in 1895. Google him and you will see he had an interesting life in America, including
arrests, a plot to corner the market on beer during Prohibition, and an escape from a New Jersey asylum. Per google/AI, 98 Rivington Street is located at a prominent corner on the Lower East Side (at the intersection of Rivington and Ludlow Streets).
In the early 1900s, this area was the heart of NYC's densely populated immigrant neighborhoods, where many physicians, clinics, and independent druggists operated out of mixed-use tenement properties. (Image)
