1475   imageGerman Democratic Republic, "A Feast from the East" Outstanding Specialized Collection of Stamps & Covers, 1948-91, It's not often you can use the word "outstanding" to describe a collection of the DDR, but that is certainly the case here! Housed in eight large binders, an incredibly in-depth look at the stamps and postal history of the former East Germany with a highly specialized breakdown of the definitive issues (color, plate, watermark & gum varieties), along with a virtually complete mint collection and additional pages for Zusammendrucke, miniature sheets, and booklets including other bonuses, like blackprints, coil strips, pieces of used & unused postal stationery, and all ten sheets from the 1953 Karl Marx Gedenkheft (MiNr. S344-53). And getting back to the postal history, well over 400 covers, mostly FDCs but also special event and postally used, the latter with one entire binder just for the 1990-91 interim period following reunification with numerous examples of mixed frankings including the stamps of Berlin. In addition, coverage of the Russian Zone including a mint Goethe sheet and over a dozen BSZ inverted overprints, and extensive officials including the ZKD stamps after 1957 (not in Scott) with over 60 examples on cover. The DDR might be a "dead country" but its philately lives on! generally Very Fine, two volumes flipped online as reference. Shipping charges apply - weight 52 lbs.
