1923 Harding Memorial Issue
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
3148 O 613 image1923, 2¢ Harding, rotary press printing, the rare perf. 11 (Scott 613), a new find; small creases and overall toning, Very Good, with 2025 P.S.E. certificate.
Scott $35,000 as Fine.

The 2¢ Harding Rotary Perf 11 stamp was discovered in 1938. Scott notes "No. 613 was produced from rotary press sheet waste." In United States Stamps 1922-26, Gary Griffith hypothesizes that rotary-printed sheets of 400 were first reduced to panes of 100 and then fed through the 11-gauge perforating machine normally used for flat plate sheets. According to a recent census, only 48 stamps of this issue are known, 18 of which are faulty. This stamp is just the 49th example known of this rare issue..
