Tonga
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
397   imageTonga, Extraordinary Mint & Used Holding, 1886-2020, part of the vast inventory from one of the largest stamp retailers in the Netherlands, these three stockbooks are not only packed with multiples of many better stamps including a lot of premium MNH, but they are also in impeccable order with mint on the left and used towards the right with the Michel catalogue number noted in the margin; plenty of King George I and King George II examples from the 19th century well before the wacky designs and outlandish products of recent years, extensive Queen Salote and UPU Common Designs; what will drive customers wild are the oversized coins, Tonga hearts and maps, bananas and oil dericks, medals and watches, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, pineapple and coconut, Olympics and Red Cross, space and movie stars; dealer was really smart by salting away about 10 examples of each making complete sets without large quantities of lower denominations possible; fully imaged online; catalog value here is tremendous but the important part is this material sells, Very Fine. Shipping charges apply - weight 21 lbs. (Video for this lot) (Video2 for this lot) (Video3 for this lot) (Video4 for this lot) (Image)

398   imageTonga, "Stick Around" Highly Complete All-Mint Collection, 1886-2014, Long before the USPS issued its "experimental" dove stamp in 1974, other countries had been issuing self-adhesives. Tonga may be the king based on sheer numbers and they are virtually all here in two separate collections. Both are in Scott Specialty albums, one with a complete mint run from 1920-80 (also includes airmails & officials) and such better as #3, 7, 8, 11, 15-16, 25, 27, 29-32, 33, 53, 54-62, 63-69, 73-81, 100-13, CO1-6, O1-2. The second collection, which runs until 1973, doesn't match the completeness but is nevertheless well-filled with even better classics. Highlights here include #1-2, 8-9, 15-17, 19-20, 21-24, 29-32, 34, 38-52, 53, 54-62, 63-69, 100-13, O1-5, O6-10. In addition, a virtually complete mint collection from 1994-2014 on Minkus pages including Niuafo'ou (aka Tin Can Island) adding to the already staggering amount of catalogue value, generally Fine to Very Fine, additional images online.
