LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
1   imageSelect High-Quality All-Mint or Never Hinged Collection, 1893-1999, Certainly this superior quality Mint United States Collection is one of the finest we have had the pleasure to offer all housed in nine Scott Platinum Series hingeless albums with pages from 1847 up to 2004. The late collector had an eye for only nice quality and his 36 mainly Philatelic Foundation certificates tell a story themselves without mention of one fault, all are clear and mint original gum or never hinged! The collection begins with a lovely complete set of Columbians, Scott 230-245 with an extraordinary $3.00 in Extremely Fine o.g. with a P.F.C., The lower values are mainly N.H., The Trans-Mississippi Set, Scott 285-293, is also complete as are the other early commemoratives including an N.H. copy of the 10¢ Perf 10, Pan Pacific issue Scott 404 with a clear P.F.C. The collection contains a plethora of never hinged as this was a clear preference. Outside of the two early commemorative sets the value is in the twentieth century issues with an emphasis on the Franklin and Washington head issues including numerous coils with quality line pairs, also included is an N.H. set of Zeppelins, Parcel Posts and Shanghai issues. The collector had only one graded stamp a "98" and a significant number of stamps look to be graded with better high value grades as the potential outcome on many. That being said, this is the rare collection without doggy 19th century and all worthwhile, saleable stamps. The scans will give you an idea of the quality and scope or better yet view in-person, Condition is as stated exceptional and had the estate not mandated an intact sale, we would have easily broken this into individual lots. It is fresh and mint, Fine to Superb, with few if any faults. The Scott value through 1935 including a stockbook is in excess of $75,000. With additional value in a sheet file of mint modern plus the 7 uncounted Platinum albums with later issues after 1935. The resale value will be quite high and perfect for auction or online sales. Per John Meek's article in the June 1980 US Specialist (p. 332), the Beacon air mail stamp of 1928 was the last air mail issue to carry initials. None were on the (blue) vignette plates but a number of the (red) frame plates carried them. The list … was published on page in 1971 on page 10 of the US Specialist.
