LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
173   imageRevenue and Extreme Back-of-the-Book Collecton, 1880s-1980s, in nine volumes (seven of which are Scott Specialty albums). Inside, there is an album of Revenues, from Potato Tax stamps to Telegraph, plus local airline carriers, which dared to challenge the post office in the 1970's and 80's, in addition, nearly complete consular issues, with a respectable section of narcotic stamps, quite a bit of consular stamps and interesting documents, including a page from a passport and a complete passport, inspected luggage stamps, customs service stamps, quite a few revenue stamped bankchecks, RVB1-2, section of rectification stamps, a very specialized Postal Savings and War Savings section, with many stamps with plate numbers, along with quite a few savings cards and booklets, which you seldom see in this quantity, there is a great Telegraph section, with many complete panes, an album containing hundreds of different state taxes, with lock stamps, excise, and various state tax items, there is an album of over 450 different Tobacco, Snuff, Cigar and Cigarette stamps, two albums of Christmas Seals, with dozens of early postal cards and covers celebrating the holiday, an album with some earlier World's Fair post cards, a large Scott Specialty album filled with WWII ration books and ration stamps along with some other WWII memorabilia with a few books of savings bonds, a WWII military discharge document, an Air Warden card and other miscellaneous pieces of memorabilia of the time, an album of possessions, not quite strong enough to go on its own lot, but certainly several areas of strength, with strong sections of Spanish American war issues, with plate numbers, Canal Zone overprints of American stamps with plate numbers, some nice Hawaii imprints, several Confederate States plate imprints on Scott 11-12 with plate numbers 2-4, with plate number 3 on cover and plate 4 in strip of five. This collection is only meant for the brave of heart, who have already explored the depths of U.S. philately and are looking for something new and exciting to specialize in.
