135   imageHighly Specialized Revenue Collection, 1862-1963, in three volumes (two of which are Scott Specialty and one album is of revenue stamped paper). Most of the strength appears to be in the First Issue with 90%+ of a packed Scott Specialty album dedicated to the first issue. As you examine this album, the first thing you must realize is, this collector loved cancels, so you will see so many socked-on-the-nose cancels where the collector goes into detail about what type of cancel it is (whether it was railroad, fire insurance, bank, etc.). He also really loved larger pieces, so among the First Issue imperfs and part-perforations, you have some large selvage pieces and larger multiples, with the following better: #R1a pair, R1b pair, rather large R4a, R13b, R19b pair and block of 10, R22b, R24b pair, R40b with imprint, decent size R62b with large margins, R64b with massive sheet margin, R59b strip of three and several plate number selvage singles, R65a, R68a with imprint capture, R82a, R85a, massive R88a, large R90a, large R91a, R98a, R101a, perforated issues are mostly complete, appearing to only miss the typical 6c proprietary $20 Probate of Will and $200 Internal Revenue stamps, but instead of focus on the completeness, you really should look at all of the supplementary section as there are well over 100 pages of just the perforated issue, with many documents, including a few photos, stamps with extra perforation rows, many stamps with imprint captures or plate numbers, quite a few pairs and blocks, including some rather large pieces (especially if they had plate numbers still attached), cancels were always purchased, especially railroad, pre printing paper folds, quite a few railroad stock certificates. The same type of specialization carries over into the Second and Third Issues, where you see the Second Issue mostly complete, only missing the $1.60 up to the $25, and the Third Issue complete, with some amazing imprint and plate number pieces along with extra perforations, multiples, etc. As you move into the second volume, you find #R159-R160 along with an extra R159 with plate number, then you get into the highly specialized Spanish-American War Battleship issues, with various cancels, imperforate-between, multiples, documents, etc., then you get to the large Documentary issues which look similar to Newspaper stamps, small Red Documentary issues of the 1910s and finally 1940s Documentary issues with occasional high denominations, we move to first Proprietary set where you have the better 5¢, 6¢ and 10¢ denominations of various papers, collection then goes back to the Battleships where you see quite a few medicine cancels, large multiples, future delivery mostly complete (only missing the last couple stamps); Stock Transfer very strong until you get to 1940, where it drops off a bit, but still has occasional higher denomination Green Stock Transfer stamps, quite a few of the first Silver Tax issue, decent Wine stamps, quite a few Beer stamps, with some various papers, and with #REA20, REA34, REA75, along with some Distilled Spirits, Distillery Warehouse and Prohibition prescription forms, finally strong section of Playing Cards, with the normal Scott-listed items, followed by interesting cancels of the various companies or varieties. Of course, as a person collects Revenues, they are not typically looking for graded material, but for cancels, multiples, etc. This is an "old-time" collection, so condition was sometimes sacrificed for a beautiful cancel or variety, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. Shipping charges apply - weight 20.2 lbs.
