80 331/543 imageWashington-Franklin Used Plate Number Collection, 1908-21 (Scott 331/543), many thousands (likely tens of thousands) of different (mostly used) plate number singles in five Scott Specialty albums, along with the occasional mint plate number singles or plate block when a suitable plate number single could not be found, there are also some very difficult covers with plate number singles or multiples on contemporary covers. There are also occasional better mint: #339 plate number strip of 3, 331a/332a/374a/375a in various positions, 424d/425e/462a/463a with various positions or plate numbers, 467 NH, 479-80, 501b/502b with various positions or plate numbers, 524 with plate number, 528 plate block with monogram over plate number, as well as used: large strips of 424 and 425 with Coil Stamps inscription, 505 on piece, 524 blocks in various positions including top plate number with single black 8179 plate number, etcetera. We noticed occasional better plate numbers, as listed by Durland, as we were browsing, which you can find too by looking at our video which we produced for viewers on our website. Of course, when collecting a topic so rare, factors such as centering or condition are exchanged for ever finding any example of these rare stamps, so there might be some occasional faults or poorly centered stamps, but the rarity of these positions more than makes up for that, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. 81 134-218 imageBank Note Specialized Collection with Plate Numbers, 1870-87 (Scott 134-218), housed in Scott Specialty album and boasts hundreds of different stamps, with a particular focus on used plate number singles. It is sorted by issue and plate number and also contains interesting varieties, cancels, and interesting postally used covers - features that are typical of specialized old-time collections. The collector's goal was to acquire the most elusive used plate numbers, resulting in more elusive plate numbers. The collection includes occasional better mint plate number singles or multiples, including 134 pair with split grill, 134 used on cover, a pages of various 136 grill varieties, 147 group of pages containing many imprint and plate number pieces along with a preprint paper fold and a cover that appears to have a fancy cancel which looks like a male figure, page of #148 with color cancels and imprints, along with repurposed official business cover, 150 several stamps with various colors including a possible brown, several 151s, 152 with large portion of imprint and a couple usages on cover, 154 with large portion of imprint, page of #156 singles with several imprints and partial plate numbers, a couple pages of 157 with a single capturing imprint on cover, several pages of 158 with partial imprints, strip of three on cover with partial Continental imprint, several paper varieties, including: double paper and vertically ribbed paper, stitch watermark, etcetera, several stamps with captured plate numbers, 159 with partial imprints fancy cancels, with paids, numerals, paid all, etcetera, 160 several stamps with color and NYFM cancels, 161 a couple pages of stamps with interesting cancels with color and NYFM cancels along with imprints and partial plate numbers, 162 page of stamps with interesting cancels and one stamp with a dramatic imprint capture, 163 page full of imprints and plate number singles, several 165's, 166, as you move into the latter Continental issues, you encounter many more dramatic fancy cancels with quite a few paids, numerals, letters, color cancels, as well as many imprints and plate numbers up to the 15c, along with large imprint strips of 5 or 6 on Scott 212 (2 large strips), 213, 213 (3 large strips), some double perforation varieties on 216 along with 217 and 219 high denomination singles. The main focus of this collection is on used plate number singles, and the collector spent almost five decades acquiring almost every available stamp in this category. As a result, it's highly likely that most of the stamps in this collection are among the rarest in the market. We've already discovered some extremely scarce numbers in other parts of the collection, and we expect to find more in this section. If you want to see the collection for yourself, a video is available on our website. When collecting such rare stamps, the mere existence of the stamps takes precedence over factors like centering or condition, so occasional faults or off-center stamps may be present. However, their rarity far outweighs these minor flaws, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. Shipping charges apply - weight 6.4 lbs. (Video for this lot) (Video2 for this lot) (Image)

85 246-284 imageSpecialized First Bureau Issue Collection with Plate Numbers, 1894-97 (Scott 246-284), in two Scott Specialty albums containing many thousands of stamps, with a strong concentration of used plate number singles, sorted by issue and plate number, along with shades, cancels or interesting postally used covers, which you only find in the most specialized of old-time collections. The goal was to find the most elusive used plate number single, so you don't tend to find a lot of high Scott catalog value items, as you do scarce listed Durland numbers, so it is hard to create a wall of numbers for you to relate back to, however we found a few items to give you a taste, mint plate number singles (unless noted otherwise): 253 plate number strip of three, 255, 256, 266/267 Type II and III pair and block of four, many plate number singles and strips of three of various 1c and 2c denominations, 268 (3 and plate number strip of three), 269 (3 and plate number strip of three), 270 (5 and plate number strip of three), 271 (2), 272 (2), 273 (3), 280 (5), 281 (3 singles and 2 plate number strips of three), 282 (2), 282C plate number strip of three, 283 single and plate number strip of three, 284 and used: 264-78. It is important to note that this collector acquired virtually every available used plate number single over a period of nearly five decades, which means that the stamps in this collection are likely among the most comprehensive in the market. As we reviewed other sections of the collection, we discovered some highly elusive stamps and anticipate finding similar gems in this segment. You can view a video of the collection on our website and see for yourself. When dealing with such a rare collection, aspects such as condition and centering take a back seat to the mere existence of the stamps. Consequently, there may be occasional flaws or off-center stamps, but their scarcity more than compensates for any imperfections, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. 90 230-330 imageSpecialized Commemoratives Collection with Plate Numbers, 1893-1907 (Scott 230-330), housed in Scott Specialty album and boasts, hundreds, if not thousands of stamps, with a particular focus on used plate number singles. It is sorted by issue and plate number and also contains shades, cancels, and interesting postally used covers - features that are typical of specialized old-time collections. The collector's goal was to acquire the most elusive used plate numbers, with occasional better mint plate number singles and multiples along with very interesting cover usages, but it is a little difficult to find the better individual Scott listed items as plate number was often selected over Scott number, making it challenging to create a wall of numbers for comparison. The primary theme of the collection is that the collector spent almost five decades amassing nearly every used plate number single available, making it highly likely that most of the stamps in this collection are among the rarest in the market. 94 300-320 imageSpecialized Second Bureau Issue Collection with Plate Numbers, 1902-03 (Scott 300-320), in Scott Specialty album and large home-made album containing many thousands of stamps, with a strong concentration of used plate number singles, sorted by issue and plate number, along with shades, cancels or interesting postally used covers, which you only find in the most specialized of old-time collections. The goal was to find the most elusive used plate number single, so you don't tend to find a lot of high Scott catalog value items, as you do scarce listed Durland numbers, so it is hard to create a wall of numbers for you to relate back to, however we found a few items to give you a taste, mint plate number singles (unless noted otherwise): 300 strip of 3, 301 (2 singles and 4 strips of three), 302 (3), 303 (3), 304 (2), 308 (2), 309, mint booklet panes: 301c (2), 319g (4 panes with 3 position E and 1 position D plate number 3198), 319Fq, 300-13 used set and, 300-7 used blocks of four. One important aspect to consider is that the collector had amassed practically every available used plate number single over a span of around five decades, indicating that this collection probably contains most of the stamps present in the market. During our review of other areas of the collection, we discovered a few incredibly uncommon stamps and anticipate discovering similar ones in this section. You can visit our website and watch the video to examine the collection yourself. However, when dealing with such a rare collection, factors like condition and centering are overlooked in favor of finding any example of these exceptional stamps. 97 219-229 imageSmall Bank Note Specialized Collection with Plate Numbers, 1890 (Scott 219-229), housed in Scott Specialty album and boasts hundreds of different stamps, with a particular focus on used plate number singles. It is sorted by issue and plate number and also contains interesting varieties, cancels, and interesting postally used covers - features that are typical of specialized old-time collections. The collector's goal was to acquire the most elusive used plate numbers, making it challenging to create a wall of numbers for comparison. The collection includes occasional better mint plate number singles or multiples, including 13 very large plate number strips of 220, 221 (2 pairs), 223-27 plate number singles, 223 plate number strip of five, 225 (3 plate number pairs and one plate number strip of five), 226 plate number strip of four, 228 plate number pair, and an interesting variety such as the 219 candle flame variety. The primary theme of the collection is that the collector spent almost five decades acquiring nearly every used plate number single available, making it highly probable that most of the stamps in this collection are among the rarest in the market. While examining other sections of the collection, extremely scarce numbers were found, and more are expected in this section. To see the collection for yourself, you can view a video on our website. When collecting such rare stamps, factors like centering or condition take a back seat to the mere existence of the stamps, so occasional faults or off-center stamps may be present, but their rarity far outweighs these minor flaws, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. 101 63-97 imageSpecialized Collection of 1861-67 Issue, with Plate Numbers (Scott 63-97), on Scott Specialty pages, with a particular focus on used imprint captured singles. It is sorted by issue and also contains interesting varieties, cancels, and a few interesting postally used covers - features that are typical of specialized old-time collections. As anyone who knows these early classics, it is incredibly difficult to find imprint captures of some of these early issues as the selvage was not typically saved and the margins were quite narrow. Notable items start with a page of the early 1861 issues, with a couple great candidates for pink or rose pink shades, 72, 76, 78, moving on to a page of #63 with various shades, color cancels, double perfs, paids, a couple covers, etcetera, 68 page with some fancy cancels: ie: cogwheel, paid, color cancels, as well as a lovely imprint single, partial page of 70/78 several stamps with a variety of shades, one stamp with double perforations, 73 page of stamps with various cancels, a couple revenue cancels, paids, color cancels, 9 stamps and 1 cover with imprint selvage including one which says "Plate" but the number was probably on the next stamp, 76 a couple stamps, one with prominent imprint capture, a page of the various grills with wide straddle margin #85B, along with some other grilled issues: 86, 89, 92 (2), several 93s with color cancels or paper varieties, 96-97 and 97 with small preprint paper fold. The collection primarily centers around individual used imprint stamps. He prefered plate numbers, but they are exceedingly difficult on these early issues. The collector has spent close to fifty years amassing nearly all of the available stamps in this category. This makes it highly probable that a majority of the stamps in this collection are some of the scarcest ones in the market. Other areas of the collection have already yielded incredibly rare stamps, and we anticipate finding more in this particular section. If you're interested in viewing the collection, a video is accessible on our website. Given the rarity of these stamps, their existence is the most important factor, with considerations such as centering or condition taking a backseat. Thus, some stamps may have faults or be off-center, but their scarcity far surpasses these minor imperfections, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. Shipping charges apply - weight 0.6 lbs. 102 1110//2375 imagePlate Number Single and Plate Block Specialized Collection, 1958-88 (Scott 1110//2375), in 28 Scott Specialty albums and another home-made album, packed with plate number singles and plate blocks, but also containing various interesting covers, including the occasional first day, interesting cancels, shades, varieties, or whatever caught his eye. Includes two quite comprehensive books of Transportation coils and plate number singles, with quite a bit of mint strips adding up to significant face value. The main focus of this collector's interest was used plate number singles, but often he couldn't find the plate numbers or varieties he wanted, so he would resort to filling those spaces with mint stamps. So, in addition to all of the used plate number material, there is a decent amount of face value postage here too, generally Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff. Shipping charges apply - weight 219 lbs. 107 551//573 imageFourth Bureau Perf 11 Flat Plate Issue Plate Number Collection, 1922-25 (Scott 551//573), many thousands of different (mostly used) plate number singles in Scott Specialty album, along with the occasional mint plate number single or plate block when a suitable plate number single could not be found, there are also some very difficult covers with plate number singles or multiples on contemporary covers. There is a complete set of mint plate number singles as well as a used set along with several of the high denomination numbers, including massive 572 bottom margin plate block of 20 with two plate numbers, quite a few position pieces of 573 with various selvage inscriptions, several with plate numbers and used right arrow block of 30. We noticed occasional scarce plate numbers, as listed by Durland, as we were browsing, which you can find too by looking at our video which we produced for viewers on our website. 112 J1/J104 imagePostage Due Specialized Collection with Plate Numbers, 1879-1959 (Scott J1/J104), housed in two Scott Specialty albums and contains hundreds, if not thousands, of stamps. The concentration is primarily on used plate number singles, arranged by issue and plate number, and includes shades, cancels, and intriguing postally used covers, which are typically only found in highly specialized old-time collections. The primary objective was to locate the most elusive used plate number singles, resulting in a scarcity of high-value Scott catalog items but featuring numerous scarce Durland numbers. Therefore, it may be difficult to create a wall of numbers for reference purposes. The key point to consider is that the collector spent nearly five decades acquiring almost every available used plate number single, making this collection one of the most comprehensive in the marketplace. We encountered some highly uncommon stamps while reviewing other areas of the collection and anticipate finding comparable gems in this section. You can view a video of the collection on our website and see for yourself.
