Bhutan, "The Thunder Dragon" Collection of Mint & Covers, 1962-96, When Bhutan burst onto the philatelic scene in the 1960s
with their unusual stamp designs, they were at first mainly ignored. After all, what serious philatelist would take seriously stamps in 3-D, playable on a turntable, or even scented stamps? Over the years though, collectors started to take notice and
Bhutanese stamps became highly sought-after. This is one of the largest collections of Bhutan we have seen in a while, with three separate mint collections, plentiful stock and many hundreds of covers. The main collection is in a Minkus album with
all stamps in mounts from 1962-80 and nearly complete. Two secondary collections almost match the completeness level of the first, each on Scott pages both hinged and in mounts. Better across the board include mint #68, 70, 97-97G (imperf),
104Ch, 104Gi, 105-05D (in singles and miniature sheets), 105E (perf & imperf), 152-52F, 154Eg, and used 69. Excellent stock too in a "102" card file packed with mint sets, a couple of stock books, and two counter books with various premium
items, like 152F mint, gutter pairs of 332-33, and a booklet of ten different postal cards from the "Dzong" series. Also, many hundreds of covers mounted on pages and in a box; a couple hundred FDCs, but for the most part, postally used. We recommend
checking this lot out in person, but for those of you unable to make the trip, some additional images are available online, Fine to Very Fine. Shipping charges apply - weight 52 lbs. (Video for this lot) (Video2 for this
