2276   imageU.S. and Foreign, Sexagesimal Stack of Stocks, 1851-1980s, make space for these 65 binders, albums and stockbooks, plus even more notebooks and loose, and prepare for some sorting and pricing; this whopping holding, accumulated over decades by a non-stamp dealer, offers everything from the mundane to the fresh-to-market classics; roughly a quarter to a third is US, with stock ranging back to used #11 and mint/unused #24, with loads of singles, pairs, strips, souvenir sheets, blocks and plate blocks following; note perfins and precancels, Back-of-the-Book from Airs to Christmas Seals (including earlies), Hawaii, and more; plenty of face if you don't want to break it all up, including one binder of mid-1980s Souvenir Panels; British Commonwealth is probably equally strong, with attractive Canada, Great Britain from 1d Reds to mid-1970s' gutter and traffic light pairs, an apparently complete 1937 Coronation omnibus album, and numerous Queen Elizabeth II Silver Wedding issues; foreign offers a binder of Revenues (a fun look through), Topical collections (Freedom from Hunger, Red Cross, World Refugee Year), plus nice Germany, Latin America, Russia, Monaco, etc., etc.; some binders well-organized, others more of a jumble, but plenty to please dealer and collector alike; as always with a lot this size, expect some faults, but nothing egregious jumped out in our review, generally Fine to Very Fine, well worth the time to inspect. Shipping charges apply - weight 174 lbs. (Image)

2278   imageMostly U.S. Massive Cover Hoard, 1850's-1990's, very messy lot with a strong emphasis on Navy, as this collector was a 20 veteran of the Navy who enjoyed nothing more than spending his paycheck every Friday to get a weekly delivery from various auction houses. He loved nothing more than to sort through his treasures for the rest of the weekend. He had a strong interest in Naval covers, APO's, YMCA soldier's letters, etcetera as well as First Day covers, U.S. postal stationary, occasional worldwide covers and Massachusetts postal history. When the collection arrived here, before repacking, there were around 30 large boxes full of covers, plus some long cover boxes. We expect that to change slightly with repacking, but that should give you a good idea of the scope you will be looking at. There is some good news and bad news. The good news is, this lot has been untouched for at least two decades. The bad news is, unfortunately, sometime in the 1990's, some of the covers were stored in various bedrooms and crawl spaces around the house, but some of the boxes were stored in the basement or barn, so some were damaged beyond salvageability from rodents and weather, so we took what we could and trashed the unsaleable items. Expect to encounter some dust with a bit of mold from being forgotten about as this gentleman's health declined over his last couple decades. This lot will require some careful sorting to milk it for its full value. When we were sorting through the stamp section, there were $50 and $100 items mixed with piles of junk and we expect to see exactly the same thing here. Usually when we offer these lots, we find collectors will sort through the junk and dump 95% of the material into another auction or donate it to a children's group and find the remaining 5% pays off well for the cost of the lot plus the time it took to properly sort through it. Condition will vary as some boxes are musky, but much of the material is still in collectable condition and ready to be sorted for breakdown, generally Fine to Very Fine appearance. Shipping charges apply - weight 400 lbs. (Image)

In addition to these areas, there are many, many stamps floating around in the $20-$100 catalog range which are not worth mentioning individually, but overall add to substantial value, generally Fine to Very Fine appearance.
