1309 P U617 image In 1989 the US issued its first holographic stamped envelope picturing a space shuttle docking at a futuristic space station (Scott # U617). The hologram was created by American Bank Note Holographics. Offered here is an original aluminized glass plate (6” x 8.75” x 0.25”) created during the initial phases of design and development as an approval model for the final design. This plate from the ABN archives is one of just two known that depicts a fully sculpted version of the basic design. This concept was rejected by the USPS and thus, is considered an essay. An incredibly rare piece of production history for the very first US holographic issue. Shipping charges apply - weight 1.4 lbs. (Image) (Image2)
