96 cover   image1790 (Apr. 16), Folded Address Sheet to James Wilson, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, addressed to "The Honorable James Wilson/one of the Judges of the supreme court/of the United States/Philadelphia" (sender unknown, sadly); manuscript "3" rating at top right and straightline "WILLIAMS.B.G APR 16" and "PAID." handstamps at top, with curious light red "1/" marking at top left; no date, but George Washington appointed Wilson one of the original five Associate Justices of the Supreme Court in 1789, and this straightline cancel is known used in 1790; the Supreme Court's first session was held Feb. 2, 1790, this cover sent a mere 2½ months later; cover skillfully cleaned, Very Fine. 97 cover   image[Arkansas] Fort Smith, Ark., partial double circle datestamp, Oct 10, 1861, with matching boxed "PAID" and manuscript "10" on a clean orange cover to Mt. Enterprise, Tex.; Very Fine. Includes the original well-written soldier's letter datelined Fort Smith, Sept 30; the writer, one F.I. Rhodes talks a bit about camp, and revival meetings and wonders about goings-on at home, but also notes that "I hope the demand for soldiers will not be so great as to call out all the young men at once…but I am fearful it will be the case for [General] Ben McCulloch has made a call upon Texas for 5000 men…" Ex Lippman.
