5059 68Gb imageNicaragua, 1930 (Jun 3-6), Europe-Pan-American Flight, Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen Return (Michel 68Gb), cover with Nicaragua & U.S. mixed franking; sent by regular airmail from Managua to Havana and intended to fly by Graf Zeppelin from Havana to Lakehurst; however, when the airship canceled its planned landing at Cuba, the cover was carried by ship to New York and then taken to Lakehurst; 1.27cor Nicaragua postage affixed (front & back) and canceled May 15; backstamped Havana (May 18) and New York, May 22 (as registered mail) and again May 28 when it left for Lakehurst as regular first class mail, the Nicaraguan Registration handstamp having been crossed out (there were no facilities for registered mail aboard the Zeppelin); U.S. $1.30 Zeppelin (C14) tied by May 27 duplex handstamp, German & U.S. Zeppelin cachets. Only 11 mixed franking covers were flown.
