9759 cover northwest terr marietta imageMarietta (Northwest Territory) June 22 (1802) Free, manuscript on folded letter to "M. Silas Bent, Post Master Charlestown Brooke C.H." (Virginia; now West Virginia), in the hand of Marietta postmaster Griffin Greene Sr., Very Fine and very scarce and desirable, ex Devol (left in a balance lot).
ASCC $1,750.


According to an accompanying typed letter from an April 1978 typed letter from Robert L. Lisbeth, Silas Bent was appointed postmaster of "Brook [without the "e" at the end of Brook] C.H., Va., sometime between April 1 and July 1, 1801. (and) was replaced by Robert Colwel sometime between january 1 and April 1, 1803." Also accompanying is a photocopy of a bill of sale signed by Griffin Greene, proving that Greene addressed and sent this letter, which is unfortunately without contents.
