LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
8508 cover C3 image1929, Cover and Letter to Transvaal (SG C3), type III cachet on a clean cover addressed to Irene, Transvaal with a "London.F.S./Paquebot" c.d.s., Jun 26, 1929, but no indication of when or how (or even if) the cover got to Transvaal.

The fascinating, easily-read two-page letter is from Frances Repetto, at the time, the de facto "head woman" of the island; datelined Mar 14, 1929, the letter thanks a woman for a parcel of gifts/supplies and relates some island goings-on, including the difficulty in getting supplies, due to how seldom ships called; the somewhat less-than-honorable "Mr. Pooley," an Anglican Minister on the island; her large family, the "worse ever" potato crop; and the then-current population of the island: 156, "85 males and 71 females about 50 are children under 12"., Very Fine.
