2982   imageCorrespondence from a US Sailor in the Far East, 1923-39, Paul R. Weinert served on the U.S.S. Milwaukee in 1928 and the U.S.S. Bulmer in 1930; holding includes over 100 used picture postcards (including many real photo) from China (12 with a couple showing excecutions/decapitations), Hong Kong (8), Japan (39), North Borneo (12), Philippines (8), Singapore (8) and ten covers, all to his mother in Boston beginning with his training at the Submarine Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in 1923 and ending in 1939; many of the picture postcards have no message but there are some interesting messages including "The beer is powerful but too warm here. 'Singapore Gin Sling' is about the coldest drink u can get because it has cracked ice." and "British have no jurisdiction out there [Johore]. Sultan of Johore in charge." also includes nine mint picture postcards, 12 letters (many of which are interesting including a couple long ones including one from Manila on Feb. 24, 1929 telling how the USS Memphis had two men missing and then sent a large search party and two more men disappeared; then goes on to describe the Philippine Islands and how some of the inhabitants collect heads, also includes 35 photos of Weinert with some when he was a small boy, some with his Navy colleagues and some showing places he visited (many noted on the back), plus a 1929 New Year's dinner menu for the ship listing all crewmen, a few pieces of ephemera including large hotel labels from Hong Kong and China, and more, generally Very Fine, see the entire lot online, ex Falmouth Stamp & Coin.
