2164 c image'THE RABAUL RECORD': 1916 (Mar 1) to 1918 (July) Vol I No 1 to Vol III No 7 apparently complete in a single cloth-bound volume also including 'Namanula Times' No 1 Special Christmas Edition of 22.12.1915 'Price a slice of Christmas cake' & No 2 (1.1.1916), needs rebinding but the pages are remarkably fine. The only such volume we have seen. A major book dealer is currently offering just the 1916 issues for $550. Generally well-written with a wealth of wartime & current affairs information plus countless reports of local activities, sports and special events plus articles about a myriad subjects including a macabre report about cannibalism in the interior written by Major Ogilvie. Much of a humorous or satirical nature that makes for entertaining reading. Endorsed within "With the compliments of the A/Government Printer/Rabaul 1918", which attests to its official status.
