1919-22 Harry Butler Flights 1919 (Aug 6) Adelaide-Minlaton per Harry Butler in the 'Red Devil' illustrated PPC of the plane over
Yorke Peninsula numbered card with printed promotion for Chas Moore & Co Milliners at 'New Adelaide' AAMC 21a, KGV 1½d brown tied by 'MINLATON/AU6/19SA' squared-circle, minor blemishes, Cat $650. Very scarce.
Fun fact: the expression 'New Adelaide' was coined in 1919 and applied to the Adelaide precinct around Victoria Square & Gouger Street. The Central Traders' Association used the term to promote the district as a vibrant commercial alternative to the
established Rundle Street and Hindley Street shopping hubs. They even published a short-lived newspaper 'The New Adelaide News'. (Image1)

reinforced at top & base, small part of the flap missing & minor blemishes, under-catalogued at $1750. Rare: fewer than six covers have been recorded from this return leg, and none from the outward leg. Ex Tom Frommer: sold in 2016 for $3900. Nelson

1919-22 Harry Butler Flights 1920 (Jan 24) social cover to "Bundaleer Blocks/Jamestown" with KGV 1½d brown tied by Adelaide 'BUY
WAR SAVINGS CERTIFICATES/HELP REPATRIATION' slogan cancel obscuring a light but discernible strike of the triple-oval 'The Harry J Butler & Kauper Aviation Co Ltd/AERIAL MAIL/SERVICE' cachet in violet at upper-left, faults, AAMC 35, Cat $2250. With
the enclosed letter - stained but wholly legible - stating "As Captain Butler is going to fly up to Jamestown tomorrow...I'm going to send my first letter to you by aeroplane...Perhaps when you are as old as me there will be aeroplanes carrying
passengers..."
In addition to the postage, an aerial fee of 1/- was charged. The AAMC states that "a small mail was carried" & that the return mail was of 194 items. We expect this is an error & that 194 items were carried to Jamestown. This would seem to accord
with Nelson Eustis' statement that only five covers were recorded from this flight, and that only one item is known from the return flight: see Lot 34. The Bundaleer Blocks were a 1912 closer-settlement subdivision of the North Bundaleer Estate.

Eustis who stated that only five covers had been recorded. At his 2011 auction, it was estimated at $1750 but was unsold. With a small photograph of the 'Red Devil' & a small crowd at Jamestown Showgrounds, light stain.

1919-22 Harry Butler Flights 1920 (Jan 26) social usage of 'THREE/HALFPENCE' on KGV 1d red Postal Card replying to the sender of
the previous lot, with very fine 'JAMESTOWN/26JA20/STH AUSTRALIA' cds & fine strike of the triple-oval 'The Harry J Butler & Kauper Aviation Co Ltd/AERIAL MAIL/SERVICE' cachet in violet at upper-left, AAMC 36, minor blemishes mostly on the reverse,
Cat $2750. Ex Nelson Eustis: sold in 2011 for $2760.
The AAMC states that the return mail comprised 194 items. This is almost certainly an error: we expect that 194 items were carried to Jamestown. This would seem to accord with Nelson Eustis' statement that only five covers were recorded from that
flight, and that only this one item is known from the return flight. (Image1) (Image2)
