53, neat large-part oval-of-bars cancel, Cat £250+ for mint; unpriced used. BPA Certificate (1989) states "genuine. Colour diffused around cancellation". Rare genuinely used: Dr FE Wood states at page 44 that "From panes, blocks and strips I have

and signed on the face, very fine 'IPOH/ P /POST OFFICE' squared-circle datestamp alongside, a few minor aging amrks & a couple of light bends. The rate was 1c domestic printed matter; the 'PAID' cachet & endorsement were used during a shortage of 1c

for £145. Also 10c with Darker Shades two examples with Significantly Misplaced Vertical Perfs and a normal stamp for comparison, and 1979 Flowers 10c vertical pair with the bottom row of perfs Misplaced 2mm Upwards, unmounted.

 POSTAL HISTORY: 1941 (Sept 30) commercial envelope to England endorsed "via Clipper Air Mail" with Sultan Alim Shah $2 green & red
(SG 87; Cat £60 x4+ on cover) tied by very fine 'KUALA LUMPUR/MALAYA' cds cancel, carried via Singapore with 'PASSED FOR/TRANSMISSION/ 74 ' triangular cachet in violet on the face. The Pan-Am Trans-Pacific Clipper service started making regular stops
at Singapore only from May 1941, and the service was suspended after the Pearl Harbour attack on 8.12.1941. (Image1) (Image2)

 1895 Perkins Bacon Issue 2c complete imperforate plate proof sheet of 60 (10x6) in brown-red on gummed unwatermarked paper, seven
units including at the four corners with manuscript surcharges "3 3/3 pence 3" - the lower-left unit apparently endorsed "2" at the lower corners & corrected to "3" - a few other small printers' marks, some very minor blemishes on the reverse
including a small water-stain in the lower margin, otherwise very fine with most units having full unmounted gum. Ex Dr William Wells. Possibly the only surviving sheet, and a marvellous item for collectors of Sarawak, Rhodesia, the Perkins Bacon
Story, or proofs in general.
This and similar trials with machine overprints - see the nest lot - were prepared in 1895 by Perkins Bacon in relation to their production of the 1896-97 Large Arms issue for the British South Africa Company (Rhodesia)! See 'Rhodesian Philately to
1924' by Trotter Hoffman & Flanagan at pp241-3, where several similar trials with machine overprints are shown, with the comment "there are three complete sheets known". Interestingly, no mention is made of manuscript trials. One of 'their' items is
endorsed "pattern" in the margin & we are confident that the "p" of "pence" here is in the same hand. (Image1) (Image2)
