2213 c image1942-45 Australian Forces in the Netherlands Indies mostly airmail group including registered mail from 'FIELD P.O./080.' with boxed 'Reg No' handstamp (Proud 400pts), 'AUST F.P.O./197.' x2 with boxed handstamp & 'APO 197' cachet, from 'AUST ARMY P.O./239' and '.../240' x2 the latter two with manuscript FPO number and 'APO 240' cachet respectively, from 'AUST UNIT POSTAL STN/439' with boxed 'R' handstamp (unrecorded by Proud; 500pts for manuscript R cachet) and from 'No.11 RAAF BASE PO/PACIFIC' all at Morotai, others from FPO 28 and FPO 54 x2 one on Air Mail Letter Card and FPO 510 all at Balikpapan, FPO 36 at Tarakan, Borneo, FPO 37 at Sabatai, FPO 53 at Macasser, FPO 73 and FPO 440 at Morotai, and Air Force PO 73 at Tarakan, AFPO 251 at Morotai, AFPO 254 at Balikpapan, a number on Comfort Funds envelopes, condition a little variable but most are fine to very fine. 2218 c image1946 (circa) parcel piece (145x95mm) with complete Cadbury-Fry-Pascall address label with printed 'DO NOT EXPOSE TO/SUN OR HEAT', from Tasmania to Adelaide River (NT) with KGVI 3d purple-brown pair and 6d Kookaburra tied by faint Hobart parcel-roller, redirected twice within the Territory, the label stained, perhaps from melted chocolate. 2219 oversize cover image1946 (July 11) linen-lined airmail cover (370x240mm) with Manning & Dodds Pty Ltd address label, to New York with rare franking of Robes Thick Paper £1 block of 4 (unusually well-centred) and KGVI 3d purple- brown tied by 'GPO SYDNEY/ RS /11JY46/ K /NSW-AUST' cds, blue/white R label, large 'US CUSTOMS/FREE OF DUTY/Port of NEW YORK' cachet in purple, the reverse with oval 'NEW YORK NY/7-16/1946/REGY DIV' & '/.../JUL/17/1946/WALL STREET STA' arrival cds in purple, central vertical fold well clear of the stamps, some mostly minor soiling. A remarkable survivor. The post-WWII rate was initially 4/- per half-ounce. It was reduced in mid-1946 to 2/6d per ½oz. This is either the latest recorded 4/- rate cover x20 or the earliest recorded 2/6d rate cover x32, in either case plus 3d registration. Manning & Dodds was a major import/export business. 2220 c/long cover image1950-59 airmail covers with Arms frankings comprising 1) 1950 Great Britain with 5/- solo with the 6d registration fee unpaid but not taxed; 2) 1954 to USA with 5/- 9d & 1/- paying 2/- per ½oz x3 plus 9d registration; 3) 1958 to USA with 10/- & 9d paying 2/- per ½oz x5 & underpaying the 1/3d registration; 4) 1959 to Austria with 5/- and 9d paying 2/3d per ½oz x2 plus 1/3d registration; and 5) 1963 to Switzerland with 10/- & 1/- Colombo Plan paying 2/3d x4 plus 2/- registration. Scarce quintet. After being set at 3d in 1891, the registration fee was raised to 6d on 1.7.1949; to 9d on 9.7.1951; to 1/3d on 1.10.1956; and to 2/- on 1.10.1959.
