ACSC 49xc, unmounted, Cat $7500. Only 64 formes of 30, or 1920 stamps, were overprinted and only one example of this Overprint 'double variety' occurs per forme of 30, so only 64 were produced. Gerald Fon's example - well-centred; lightly mounted -

(Hooked) 'C' of 'SPECIMEN' ACSC 49xb and the right-hand units with Damaged (Shaved) 'P' of 'SPECIMEN' ACSC 49xd, well-centred, a little very light gum aging, a small hinge remainder across the upper units, the lower units unmounted, Cat $10,000+ for
a mounted block of 4 without overprint varieties. Plated by Richard Guy as [Pos L13-14/19-20]. Only 64 formes of 30, or 1920 stamps, were overprinted. The ACSC states that "Multiples are rare ... Six blocks of 4 are recorded", but does not indicate
whether any of these include overprint varieties. Arthur Gray's extensive collection did not contain a Small Multiple Wmk block of 4. The 'Artemis' block of 4 - unmounted with gum 'suntanning' & two pulled perforations at base - sold at our auction

ACSC 49xc and Duty Plate variety White Flaw (Large Island) at Top of Gulf of Carpentaria additionally with Shading Line Break (Small Island) W of Strahan, Tasmania [Pos R25] ACSC 48(D)i, well-centred, small hinge marks & minor gum disturbance, Cat
$7500 for the Specimen Overprint variety ($1750 for the Duty Plate variety without overprint). The Gulf of Carpentaria flaw is obscured by the Specimen Overprint, but the Tasmania flaw clearly confirms the position: see Lots 793 & 794 above. Only 64
formes of 30, or 1920 stamps, were overprinted and only one example of this Overprint 'double variety' occurs per forme of 30, so only 64 were produced (only 16 of those with this Duty Plate variety). Gerald Fon's unplated example - well-centred;
